Plant & Growing Tips

Mint

  • Not in the recipe, but grow it for a refreshing garnish or to make a soothing tea alongside.
  • Plant mint in pots or with root barriers as it spreads aggressively.
  • Mint prefers partial shade and consistently moist soil.

Strawberries

  • Not in the recipe, but cultivate these for a fresh, naturally sweet accompaniment.
  • Plant bare-root strawberries in early spring in well-drained, fertile soil.
  • Ensure plants receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sun daily.

Natural Pest Control

  • Hand-pick slugs and snails from mint plants, especially after rain.
  • Cover strawberry plants with netting to protect ripening fruit from birds.
  • Use neem oil spray as an organic deterrent for common pests like aphids on both plants.

Harvest

Mint

  • Snip off leaves as needed, harvesting up to one-third of the plant at a time to encourage new growth.

Strawberries

  • Pick strawberries when they are fully red, plump, and easily detach from the stem.

Storing & Freezing

Fridge up to 2 weeks; freeze 2 months.
