  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Plant & Growing Tips

Zucchini

  • Sow zucchini seeds directly into rich, well-drained soil in full sun after all danger of frost has passed, spacing plants 3-4 feet apart.
  • Provide consistent moisture, especially once flowers and fruits begin to form.
  • Consider planting in mounds to improve drainage and warm the soil.

Garlic

  • Plant individual garlic cloves point-up about 2 inches deep and 4-6 inches apart in well-drained soil during autumn for a summer harvest.
  • Garlic requires a cold period (vernalization) to develop large bulbs.
  • Ensure consistent moisture in spring, but reduce watering as harvest approaches.

Parsley

  • Sow parsley seeds in spring or early autumn in a location with rich, moist soil and partial shade in hotter climates or full sun elsewhere.
  • Germination can be slow, so keep the seedbed consistently moist.
  • Parsley is suitable for container growing on a sunny windowsill or balcony.

Natural Pest Control

  • Inspect zucchini plants regularly and hand-pick squash bugs and their egg clusters from the undersides of leaves.
  • Use a strong spray of water to dislodge aphids from parsley plants.
  • Rotate garlic crops annually and ensure good drainage to prevent fungal issues.

Harvest

Zucchini

  • Harvest zucchini when they are 6-8 inches long and still tender; check plants daily as they grow very quickly.
  • Cut the stem with a knife, leaving a small piece attached to the fruit.

Garlic

  • Harvest garlic when the lower leaves have yellowed and dried, but 5-6 green leaves are still present.
  • Gently loosen the soil with a fork and pull the bulbs, then cure them in a warm, dry, shaded area for several weeks.

Parsley

  • Snip outer stems of parsley at the base as needed, allowing the inner leaves to continue growing for a cut-and-come-again harvest.
  • Harvest before the plant flowers to maintain the best flavor.
