  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, pepper, paprika

  2. Toss cabbage with vinegar, oil, salt & pepper.

  3. Serve slaw alongside the chicken.

Plant & Growing Tips

Cabbage

  • Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost, or direct sow in spring/late summer.
  • Plant in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil, ensuring at least 18-24 inches of spacing between plants.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist, especially as heads begin to form, to prevent splitting.

Natural Pest Control

  • Use row covers over young cabbage plants to protect them from cabbage worms and flea beetles.
  • Hand-pick slugs and snails from leaves, especially in the evening, or use organic slug pellets.
  • Plant companion herbs like dill or thyme nearby to deter common cabbage pests.

Harvest

Cabbage

  • Harvest when the head is firm and dense to the touch, usually 70-100 days after planting.
  • Cut the stem at ground level with a sharp knife, leaving outer leaves to potentially produce smaller secondary heads.
  • Leaving cabbage on the plant too long can cause the head to split, especially after heavy rain.
