Estimated. Worked out from the ingredients using the UK food composition tables, so treat it as a guide rather than a measurement. A typical recipe lands within about a quarter of the true figure. Makes about 2.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (400g) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Cooking Steps

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F).

  2. Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly, then pat them dry with paper towels.

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, paprika, and salt.

  4. Add the dried chickpeas to the bowl and toss them until they are evenly coated with the spice mixture.

  5. Place the seasoned chickpeas in the air fryer basket in a single layer.

  6. Air fry the chickpeas at 200°C (400°F) for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through (at the 7-minute mark) for even crisping.

  7. Once done, remove from the air fryer, drizzle with lime juice, garnish with fresh cilantro, and enjoy!

Optional Enhancements

  • Replace olive oil with coconut oil for a tropical twist.
  • Use smoked paprika instead of regular paprika for a deeper flavor.
  • Add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper for extra heat.

Plant & Growing Tips

Cilantro

  • Sow seeds directly in cool weather, as cilantro bolts quickly in heat; plant in partial shade during warmer months to extend the harvest.
  • Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during germination.
  • Plant in succession every few weeks for a continuous supply.

Natural Pest Control

  • Blast aphids off plants with a strong jet of water from your hose.
  • Introduce beneficial insects like ladybugs to control aphid populations.

Harvest

Cilantro

  • Snip outer leaves once plants are a few inches tall, leaving the inner leaves to continue growing.
  • Harvest regularly to encourage new growth and delay bolting.

Storing & Freezing

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze chickpeas prior to cooking and reheat in the air fryer.
