Gentle Digestive Protein Shake

For sensitive digestion or low-appetite days. Easy on the stomach, warming and soothing with gentle fibre support.

~5 mintotal

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water or almond milk
  • 1 scoop protein powder (collagen or plant preferred)
  • ½ banana or cooked apple
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground flax (optional)

Cooking Steps

  1. Add the water or almond milk to the blender first, then the protein powder.

  2. Add the banana or cooked apple and the cinnamon, plus the ground flax if using.

  3. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until completely smooth; a longer blend makes it easier to digest.

  4. Serve slightly warm (gently heat in a small saucepan over low heat, not boiling) or at room temperature, whichever feels gentlest.

Optional Enhancements

  • Skip flax if sensitive
  • Use overripe bananas
  • Cinnamon adds flavour without cost

Plant & Growing Tips

Banana

  • Needs a tropical climate, grow from a suckling in rich, well-drained soil, full sun.
  • Requires consistent warmth and humidity; best suited to large containers in frost-free regions or greenhouses.
  • Water deeply and regularly, especially during fruiting, and provide wind protection.

Apple

  • Plant bare-root trees in late winter/early spring in well-drained soil with full sun.
  • Choose a dwarf or semi-dwarf variety suitable for home gardens, ensuring you have a compatible pollinator nearby.
  • Prune annually in late winter to maintain shape and encourage fruit production.

Natural Pest Control

  • For bananas, watch for banana weevils; use sticky traps or remove affected plants.
  • Codling moths can damage apples; use pheromone traps or beneficial nematodes in the soil.
  • Aphids on young apple shoots can be blasted off with water or treated with insecticidal soap.

Harvest

Banana

  • Harvest when the fruit is plump and the ridges have softened, but still green; they will ripen off the plant.

Apple

  • Pick when apples are firm, fully colored for their variety, and easily detach from the branch with a slight twist.

Storing & Freezing

Consume fresh.
