Estimated. Worked out from the ingredients using the UK food composition tables, so treat it as a guide rather than a measurement. A typical recipe lands within about a quarter of the true figure. Makes about 2.

Ingredients

  • 1 Zucchini
  • 1 Chicken breast
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 Celery stalk
  • 2 cups Bone broth

Cooking Steps

  1. Spiralize zucchini and set aside.

  2. Simmer chicken, carrot, celery in broth until cooked.

  3. Shred chicken, return to pot, add zoodles, cook briefly.

Plant & Growing Tips

Zucchini

  • Sow seeds directly after the last frost, or start indoors 3-4 weeks prior for an earlier harvest.
  • Provide full sun, rich, well-drained soil, and plenty of space, or grow in large containers (20-gallon minimum).
  • Keep soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruiting to encourage production.

Carrot

  • Sow seeds directly into loose, stone-free soil in full sun after the last frost.
  • Thin seedlings to 2-4 inches apart to allow roots to develop properly.
  • Keep soil consistently moist for even growth and to prevent cracking.

Celery

  • Start seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before the last frost, as celery needs a long growing season and consistent moisture.
  • Transplant seedlings into rich, moist soil, ideally with partial shade during the hottest part of the day.
  • Mounding soil around the stalks (blanching) can produce more tender, less bitter celery.

Natural Pest Control

  • Squash bugs and vine borers on zucchini can be managed by hand-picking eggs and adults, or using row covers early in the season.
  • Carrot rust flies can be deterred by planting onions or marigolds nearby, or by using fine mesh insect netting.
  • Aphids on celery can be sprayed off with a strong jet of water or treated with neem oil.

Harvest

Zucchini

  • Pick when 6-8 inches long for best flavour and tenderness; smaller ones are perfect for 'zoodles'.
  • Harvest frequently to encourage more production; if left too long, they become tough and seedy.

Carrot

  • Begin harvesting when roots are at least ½ inch in diameter at the soil line, usually 60-80 days after sowing.
  • Gently loosen soil around the carrot before pulling to avoid snapping the root.

Celery

  • Harvest outer stalks as needed once plants are established and stalks are at least 6 inches tall and firm.
  • Alternatively, cut the entire plant at the base for a full harvest.
