Plant & Growing Tips
Mango
- Grow in a warm, frost-free climate with full sun and well-draining soil; container growing is possible in cooler regions if brought indoors.
- Ensure consistent watering during flowering and fruit development, reducing it as fruit matures.
Red Onion
- Plant sets or seeds in full sun with fertile, well-draining soil in late fall for spring harvest or early spring for summer harvest.
- Keep the area weed-free and provide consistent moisture during bulb development.
Lime
- Provide full sun and well-draining soil in a warm, humid environment, bringing container-grown trees indoors if temperatures drop below freezing.
- Water deeply and regularly, allowing the topsoil to dry slightly between waterings.
Natural Pest Control
- Monitor mango trees for fruit flies and use traps or cover ripening fruit with fine mesh bags.
- Practice crop rotation for onions to disrupt the life cycle of onion thrips.
- Spray lime trees with horticultural oil to manage scale insects and citrus leaf miners.
Harvest
Mango
- Harvest when the fruit changes color, feels slightly soft to the touch, and has a fragrant aroma near the stem end.
Red Onion
- Harvest when the tops naturally fall over and begin to yellow, then cure them in a dry, airy place for several days.
Lime
- Pick limes when they are fully green or slightly yellow, firm, and heavy for their size, as they do not ripen further off the tree.
