Apple Pie

An American icon featuring homegrown apples, lemon, and warming spices.

Ingredients

  • 6–8 apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or mixed)
  • ¾ cup sugar or honey
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1–2 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp flour or cornstarch
  • 2 pie crusts (top + bottom)
  • Optional: butter pats, vanilla, allspice, brown sugar

Swaps & variations

  • Dutch crumble topping: oats + brown sugar + butter
  • Maple apple pie: replace sugar with maple syrup
  • Mixed fruit pie: add berries or pears
  • Herb twist: add fresh thyme or rosemary to filling

Storing & freezing

Refrigerate 3–4 days. Freeze baked pie up to 3 months. Freeze apple slices (with lemon juice) for 6–8 months.
